While the aging of the population continues with low birth rate and labor shortage becomes more serious in Japan, the number of foreign nationals is increasing and reached the highest, about 2.7 million in 2018, which accounts for more than 2% of the total population of Japan.
Since the new status of residence "Specified Skilled Worker" was introduced in April 2019, the number of foreign nationals living in Japan will further increase in the future.
Under these circumstances, local governments and communities are expected to take various measures in order to accept and co-exist with foreign residents as a member society. In order to realize "co-existence" both foreign residents and Japanese community who accept them need to understand and cooperate each other. MOFA co-hosts with IOM annual "International Forum on Acceptance of Foreign Nationals and Their Integration into Japan," aiming to encourage debate among the people by providing opportunities to discuss concrete challenges and measures.
The forum in this year will discuss under the theme of "Smooth acceptance of foreign nationals in local communities". The forum will give the audience an opportunity to be shared the views, good practices and challenges on the theme.
We sincerely look forward to your attendance.
